Versatility of Tourmaline

When it comes to Tourmaline, it is a very versatile stone, taking on different qualities depending on the color and size of the crystal. Most tourmalines are a three-sided prism shape, which provides exceptional energy concentrations and energy flow properties. It can also be a long thin crystal which terminates in a single or double-ended, which is where energy can become highly focused. Tourmalines are usually created in high humidity and water vapor locations, usually around hydrothermal features. The surrounding minerals will determine the color and shape characteristic. Certain color and shapes are found in only one specific place, such as Paraiba, which comes from the Paraiba region of Brazil. In fact, many single-source tourmalines have trademarked names, which will artificially increase their price. Tourmaline also comes in species- or variants of their chemical make up. Elbite is the most common, and makes up majority of the crystals used and includes such varieties as Rubellite (pinks and red hues) and Indicolite (blues and bluish green hues). Black or deep hues are called Schorl, and Verdelite and Uvite makes up green varieties, which can be mistaken for emeralds.

Working with Tourmaline is easy, and many first time crystal users should consider adding it to their collection. The color of the tourmaline can determine the use where as the shape can determine the energy found within. Tourmalines in general are useful for balancing the body- left and right hemispheres of the brain can be better aligned and hand/eye coordination can improve. Negative thoughts, feelings, and energies can be transformed into positive ones. The heart can be filled with happiness and peace.
