Sodalite is a stone known for it’s light to deep blue coloration with streaks of white or orange calcite. This stone, an aluminosilicate with a predominance of Sodium (thus “soda”lite) is a member of the feldspathoid group of igneous rock minerals. While sodalite has existed and evidence of it has been found in ancient jewelry and caves, majority of sodalite has been used since its discovery in Greenland in the 1800’s and later on in Canada. It is mostly used as a healing stone, with usage in mainstream jewelry not as common. It is usually found as beads, cabochons, or carved into shapes.

Sodalite, while similar, is not Lapis Lazuli, though it can be mistaken for it easily. However, the key difference is that Lapis has the mineral pyrite whereas sodalite doesn’t. Sodalite is also able to fluoresce a pink to orange color when exposed to black light.
Sodalite, being blue is generally associated with the Throat Chakra and Third Eye Chakra. Because of this, sodalite is a powerful tool for communication. It is a natural amplifier of thought processes allowing for rational, heartfelt speech. It helps you to speak more from the heart than from places of anger, helping to limit self destructive or hurtful words toward others. It can also help with confidence boosting qualities for public speaking when combined with Tiger’s Eye.
